Blue Jaw Tilefish Goby - Hoplolatilus starcki
Maximum Size: the Hoplolatilus starcki grows up to 4 inches.
General Size Specifications: The small size will come to you generally 2 to 3 inches; the medium generally 4 to 5 inches; the large generally 6 to 7 inches.
Minimum Tank Size: The Blue Jaw Tilefish Goby prefers a tank of at least 30 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim.
Diet: The Hoplolatilus starcki is a carnivore and likes to eat variety of foods, especially Mysis Shrimp, worms, flakes.
Level of Care: The Blue Jaw Tilefish Goby is a medium maintenance fish.
Behavior: The Blue Jaw Tilefish Goby may act peacefully toward other fish.
Breeding: Able to breed.
Water Conditions: Keep water quality high (SG 1.020 - 1.025, pH 8.1 - 8.4, Temp. 72 - 78° F).
Range: Indo-Pacific.
General Notes: Tends to jump out. Keep in aquarium with lid or cover. Needs places to burrow. Prefer presence of substrate. Often found in pairs. Also known as Crab-Eye Gobies. Are observed to share the same burrow on sandy bottoms near coral rubble or leaf litter. They feed by one sifting a mouthful of sand while the other keeps watch for danger. They confuse predators by flashing their eye spots while swimming in such a way to resemble a sideway walking crab.
