 Description
Astraea Snail - Astrea speciesAlso known as: Conehead Algae Eater
Color: The Astraea Snail has a light brown color.
Size: The Astraea Snail may grow to about 1 inche.
Diet: Herbivore.
Feeding: It likes to eat mainly film algae such as diatoms, cyanobacteria and hair algae.
Behavior: The Astrea species is generally peaceful toward other tankmates.
Care: Many consider the Astrea species a low-maintenance specimen. Not venomous.
General notes: The Astraea Snail is an excellent choice for cyanobacteria and diatom removal from the aquarium. Will eat some hair algae. Fast moving film algae eater, it will tear through the aquarium after dark seeking out any algae it can find. Calcium levels will need to be maintained between 350 - 450 to assist this animal in continual growth and health. The fleshy mantle of this animal deposits calcium based construction material continually. If algae becomes sparse, supplementation will be required. Feed dried seaweed wrapped around a rock and placed on substrate against the glass. Most Invertebrates, including snails require very long and slow drip acclimation process of at least 2 hours as they cannot adjust quickly to even small changes in pH, temperature, alkalinity and other parameters. Like all snails, this species is intolerant of extreme nitrate levels (over 20) and cannot live in tanks that have had copper-based medications dispensed.
Water parameters: Keep water quality high (SG 1.023 - 1.025, pH 8.1 - 8.4, Temp. 72 - 78° F).
Origin: The Astrea Snail is commonly collected from Florida.

Specifications: This item comes to you in a general size. There are no size selection guarantees on this item.

Note: Due to variations among each species, livestock may not look identical to the image provided. Expect diversity since each animal is unique in color, texture and shape.
