Coral Banded Shrimp - Stenopus hispidusAlso known as: Banded Coral Color: The Coral Banded Shrimp has a red and white color. Size: The Coral Banded Shrimp may grow to 5 inches. Diet: Carnivore. Feeding: It likes to eat eats meaty bits of seafood, and detritus. Behavior: The Stenopus hispidus is generally semi-aggressive toward other tankmates. Care: Many consider the Stenopus hispidus a low-maintenance specimen. Not venomous. Acclimation: Most Invertebrates, including snails require very long and slow drip acclimation process of at least 2 hours as they cannot adjust quickly to even small changes in pH, temperature, alkalinity and other parameters. Like all snails, this species is intolerant of extreme nitrate levels (over 20) and cannot live in tanks that have had copper-based medications dispensed. General notes: The coral banded shrimp is a very hardy and interesting shrimp. It has broad red and white stripes throughout its body, wide, arm-like claws, and long whisker-like antennae. They are wonderfully colored, and are often kept as the sole resident in nano and pico type reef aquaria. They are a bit aggressive toward conspecifics, so keep them singly, or in mated pairs. They may also be aggressive to other types of shrimp, especially in a smaller space. Keep them in a reef tank with plenty of liverock and hiding places, and away from any fish that may eat them. Like most invertebrates, acclimate slowly using a drip acclimation technique. Water parameters: Keep water quality high (SG 1.023 - 1.025, pH 8.1 - 8.4, Temp. 72 - 78° F). Origin: The Coral Banded Shrimp is commonly collected from Indo-Pacific. Specifications: The Small size will come to you generally 1 to 2 inches; the medium generally 2 to 3 inches; the large generally 3 to 4 inches.
