Derasa Clam Cultured - Tridacna derasaAlso known as: Smooth Giant Clam
Color: The Derasa Clam Cultured has a tan, brown, blue, green color.
Size: The Derasa Clam Cultured may grow to 20 inches.
Diet: Planktivore.
Feeding: It likes to eat Phytoplankton.
Behavior: The Tridacna derasa is generally peaceful toward other tankmates.
Care: Many consider the Tridacna derasa a medium-maintenance specimen. Not venomous.
Lighting: Has strong lighting needs.Symbiotic algae zooxanthellae are hosted within this organism.
Water flow: The Smooth Giant Clam requires intermediate water flow.
General notes: The Derasa clam is the most popular and one of the easiest of the Tridacna to maintain in a reef aquarium. Can live under intense power compact lighting with phytoplankton suppliment. Requires sandy substrate to burrow in. Best placed in reef aquarium in sand with a flat rock buried beneath it so it can attach to the rock (in the sand). Best kept in well established aquarium. Does not appreciate high current. Can be nipped and harassed by clown gobies, blennies, shrimp, and most Angelfish and Butterfly fish.
Water parameters: Keep water quality high (SG 1.023 - 1.025, pH 8.1 - 8.4, Temp. 72 - 78° F).
Origin: The Derasa Clam Cultured is commonly collected from Indo-Pacific.

Specifications: The small size will come to you generally 2 to 3 inches; the medium generally 3 to 4 inches; the large generally 4 to 5 inches.
