Live Sand: White, Fine to Medium Grain Box. 40 lb. Box . White to very light tan in color, little color pebbles and small grain sizes. This is an expensive sand, so recommend mixing it with Substrate. The live sand, very often, will be ""seeded"" by the Live Rock. But to get the various worms and crustaceans, actual live sand may be necessary.

It is definitely helpful to have live sand, and not just substrate. It adds biodiversity, beneficial bacterial, and natural foods that many fish find appetizing.

We recommend that critters such as crabs, burrowing snails (bumble bee snails, nassarius & cerith snails, Queen and fighting Conchs be added to stir up the sand. This will help prevent gases from being trapped, and maintain an adequate amount of oxygen in the tap.
