Pincushion Tuxedo Urchin - Tripneustes gratilla Color: The Pincushion Tuxedo Urchin has a black, brown, blue, slate color. Size: The Pincushion Tuxedo Urchin may grow to 3 (not counting spines) inches. Diet: Omnivore. Feeding: It likes to eat Eats green filamentous algae, corraline algae and may mow through colonies of polyps and damage corals.. Behavior: The Mespilia globulus is generally peaceful toward other tankmates. Care: Many consider the Mespilia globulus a medium-maintenance specimen. Venomous, spines are slightlypoisonous General notes: Nocturnal algae eater. Provide places to hide. Ultra-sensitive to alkalinity changes, and will be venomous if it dies. Spines can emit toxic venom. Has been known to mow through corals. Be careful with copper-based medication and extreme nitrate levels. Water parameters: Keep water quality high (SG 1.023 - 1.025, pH 8.1 - 8.4, Temp. 72 - 78° F). Acclamation: Most Invertebrates, including urchins require very long and slow drip acclimation process of at least 2 hours or more as they cannot adjust quickly to even small changes in pH, temperature, and alkalinity.
