Chaetodon falcula
Also known as: Saddleback, Saddle-Back Butterflyfish
Maximum Size
: the Chaetodon falcula grows up to 8 inches.
General Size Specifications
: The small size will come to you generally 1 to 2 inches; the medium generally 3 to 4 inches; the large generally 5 to 6 inches not including the caudal fin.
Minimum Tank Size
: The True Falcula Butterfly prefers a tank of at least 80 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim.
Diet
: The Chaetodon falcula is a carnivore and likes to eat variety of meaty treats.
Level of Care
: The True Falcula Butterfly is a medium maintenance fish.
Behavior
: The True Falcula Butterfly may act semi-aggressively toward other fish.
Water Conditions
: Keep water quality high (SG 1.020 - 1.025, pH 8.1 - 8.4, Temp. 72 - 78° F).
Range
: Maldives.
General Notes
: Chaetodon falcula, Bloch 1793, Saddle-Back or Falcula Butterflyfish. A hardy addition to fish only and very large reef systems. Some authors rate this species more highly, right up with the highest survival-scored Pacific Double Saddle Butterflyfish, Chaetodon ulietensis. Not reef safe as it is know to pick at coral polyps, fanworms and feather dusters.
