Marble / Hort. Wrasse - Halichoeres hortulanusAlso known as: Checkerboard Wrasse
Maximum Size: the Halichoeres hortulanus grows up to 11 inches.
General Size Specifications: The small size will come to you generally 1 to 2 inches; the medium generally 3 to 4 inches; the large generally 5 to 6 inches.
Minimum Tank Size: The Marble / Hort. Wrasse prefers a tank of at least 80 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim.
Diet: The Halichoeres hortulanus is a carnivore and likes to eat meaty treats (like live feeder, fiddler crabs, small fish & grass shrimp).
Level of Care: The Marble / Hort. Wrasse is a medium maintenance fish.
Behavior: The Marble / Hort. Wrasse may act peacefully toward other fish.
Hardiness: this is a moderately hardy fish
Water Conditions: Keep water quality high (SG 1.020 - 1.025, pH 8.1 - 8.4, Temp. 72 - 78° F).
Range: Indo-Pacific.
General Notes: Halichoeres hortulanus also known as the Checkerboard Wrasse. Reportedly will eat isopods, pyramillid snails and bristleworms. Requires fine substrate to sleep in. This active water column swimmer is well known for jumping from tanks without any kind of covering.
