Also known as: Lyretail Wrasse, Moon Wrasse
Maximum Size
: the Thalassoma lunare grows up to 10 inches.
General Size Specifications
: The small size will come to you generally 1 to 2 inches; the medium generally 3 to 4 inches; the large generally 5 to 6 inches.
Minimum Tank Size
: The Lunare Wrasse prefers a tank of at least 80 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim.
Diet
: The Thalassoma lunare is a carnivore and likes to eat meaty treats (like live feeder, fiddler crabs, small fish & grass shrimp).
Level of Care
: The Lunare Wrasse is a medium maintenance fish.
Behavior
: The Lunare Wrasse may act semi-aggressively toward other fish.
Hardiness
: this is a moderately hardy fish
Water Conditions
: Keep water quality high (SG 1.020 - 1.025, pH 8.1 - 8.4, Temp. 72 - 78° F).
Range
: Indo-Pacific.
General Notes
: The Thalassoma lunare or Lunar Wrasse is harmless to corals but will pick at ornamental crustaceans, snails, serpent stars, bristleworms, mantis shrimps and very small fish. Needs planty of swimming room and will harass new fish introduced to the tank if they are smaller or close in shape. Best added as one of the last fish. Keep with larger and belligerent fishes. Offer live rock with many places for them to hide in at night or when frightened as they do not bury in the sand.
