Color: The Bird`s Nest Coral has a pink, pink-tan, pink-brown, tan or brown color.
Type of hard coral: Small polyp stony coral (SPS).
Diet: Planktivore.
Feeding: It likes to eat Filter feeding invert food only.
Behavior: The Seriatopora hystrix is generally semi-aggressive toward other tankmates.
Care: Many consider the Seriatopora hystrix a high-maintenance specimen.
Lighting: Has strong lighting needs.Symbiotic algae zooxanthellae are hosted within this organism.
Water flow: The Brush, Needle, Pink Nest requires strong water flow.
General notes: The Seriatopora hystrix or Birds Nest Coral is considered a difficult coral to acclimate. Once established it will become a very hardy coral as far as the SPS Corals are considered. This coral is very aggressive and it will sting any coral it comes in contact with. For good growth be sure to keep calcium levels stable and provide good water quality, strong flow, and strong light.
Water parameters: Keep water quality high (SG 1.023 - 1.025, pH 8.1 - 8.4, Temp. 72 - 78° F).
Origin: The Bird`s Nest Coral is commonly collected from Tonga.
